Soaring through Shadows and Light

Up above the world so high

a plane navigates turbulent cloud-covered sky

she is holding strong and steady

time and cloud whoosh by

sensing her daughters' fears, securing buckles

for a bumpy ride tucking them in on soaring wings

these passengers her joy and pride

she lands safely near water,

sand and sun flight course

magical thinking — summer has begun

sandcastles and salty breezes

splashing through tall waves until the moon rises

each wave enticing dive in for the ride

the sun's bright light fades into the distance

another day slips by like summer storms and starry skies

aboard the wobbly dock, we dry shivering bones

in the moon's sparkling light, the deep dark lake envelopes us

the mountains close in

moonlight flows down the lake glistens in solitude

her dangerous depth ominously endless she is icy cold no longer inviting

life and light through amongst shadows of day and night

the moon lights our darkness

bask in the light embrace the shadows

dreams of tomorrow' sun fuel our light
